I think the end conclusion wasn’t great. He said
It wouldn’t matter if it dropped 20 degrees
It absolutely would matter. Just like how a 4090 costs an absurdly high amount but people will still buy it. For the right person getting 20 degrees knocked off might be worthwhile regardless of how expensive it is.
The critiques that Steve laid out in this video were perfectly fine, highlighting the shortcomings of LMG when it comes to actually reviewing content (which is what they’re pivoting to, away from 100% entertainment content). A typical Linus arrogant take where he’ll learn nothing.
I’ve used vanced for years and revanced for easily 6 months. I haven’t heard of anyone getting banned since it uses MicroG for the login, but there could be a part of the TOS everyone signed that says you can’t use your account to bypass their “rules”, so it could be a technical violation 🤷♂️
That’s a fair take also. Plenty of YouTubers have said they get decent money from people who watch their content from premium members. They’re never really transparent with how much (compared to a normal user view) these views are giving them, but that’s fine.
Revanced is great. I wish it could let me bypass some of the inbuilt limits like not being able to download videos, but that’s a small price to pay for removing like 99 of the ads
It’s a good option for when you want to follow every instance and not be beholden to the server admin randomly de-federating an instance they don’t agree with personally (which was one one of the issues Reddit faced, mods with their own agenda)
If you run your own instance you can choose exactly what you get to interact with
How could you even trust this guys word, he’s broken his promises and straight up lied so often it’s actually astonishing
Coming up as 35 / 0 for me. Strange that none of the downvotes are coming into kbin
Seen plenty of people calling for the de-federation ban-hammer whenever they find comment they like. There’s fine line between having an open space and an echo chamber and if it were up to these people we’d federate with no one
At least on modern Android you can long press on most text and get that little zoomed in indicator (so you can more easily adjust the selection)
I remember that being stuck in iOS limbo for years, glad we have that but yeah it’s not super consistent right now copying
Never even heard of it, I’ll have to give it a go 👍🏼
At the end of the day I’d argue that the majority of people want a “Reddit like” experience, with dozens or posts with heaps of engagement. I’m happy to have news / repost bots if the end result is a more engaging comment thread / discussion.
When looking at older Reddit posts, I never enjoyed the comments where the discussion was OP focused. I’m keen to have them phrase the original question / link and then step back and let the discussion naturally form
So it creating an exe and hiding it from the task manager is fairly normal then? From the screenshots another bloke pasted on here, that looks pretty suspicious
Cheers for the screenshot mate.
Heaps of stuff that’s positioned as the “alternative of X” feels like garbo. For example when I’m forced to use Pinta editor / GIMP over Photoshop when I’m using Linux. I get the expectation can’t be to have feature parity but some of these alternatives feel really poor
I’d be keen to give it a go if it were legitimately anyone else besides Facebook. Would have even tried it if Microsoft made a random Twitter clone
Be super keen for foldable devices overall. I just can’t get past the huge obvious fold in the middle of the screen. It’s gotten better but I’m hoping eventually it evolves to the point where it’s seamless. Being able to pull out a phone and then unfold it to get a tablet UI would be super handy for articles
With the way some people treat the fediverse I’d argue that this place as a whole is well on its way to becoming an echo chamber.
The number of posts I’ve seen along the lines of “hey I don’t like x, can we de-federate” is shocking. People need to have some level of accountability and block people / communities / domains for themselves without resorting to pulling out the de-federation ban-hammer which affects everyone else on the instance
I still occasionally run across the odd dodgy website that tried to disable zooming (along with other oddities like trying to disable right clicking on desktop) and it feels honestly that most of these annoyances come about because some asshole in the company (the CEO, lead designer, marketer, whatever) sees any changes to their websites from the user as “ruining the experience”, disregarding the whole concept of accessibility in the modern web
