Yes!
Yes, they should have been wiped. (and then they should have been fed into a blender if i had my way.) :)
Please do not sell used enterprise hard drives, especially if you got them from your employer. This is how those emberrasing company secrets get leaked and we can’t have that can we? :)
Used to be a system engineer / admin.
Then i took an arrow to the knee.
Now i do agile stuff and paperwork :) … a lot of paperwork
I verry much like OMV, simply because i could use it with knowledge i already have.
It is a Debian system -> I understand that
It uses normal RAID and ext4 -> I understand that (Plus, if things go wrong, I can just pop the drives back into any other computer and use it without much fuss)
It has a rSnapshot plug in -> I already used that in the past.
Sure I’m missing out on fancy stuff like BTRFS / ZFS, but i can live with that.
Also my recomendation if you don’t need anything fancy.
I like the integration into the broser a lot: Instead of switching between the reader and the browser, i just switch between browser tabs.
The only weird thing with this addon is the company that makes it. They put a lot of work into their browser addons without any obvious way of monetarisation. i can not explain to myself how they make money.
So maybee don’t use it if you are on some three letter agency’s naughty list ;)
It really does feel a bit like the old days tm (IRC and random PHP boards for me) and it gives me a bit of hope that some of the spirit of the old Wild West Internet is still here. To be honest I engaged more with lemmy in the last few days, then with anything in the last 5 Years.
Unfortunately, I think the feediverse in its unpolished, unoptimised and non-compliant state will run into some legal trouble as soon as it hits a certain popularity threshold.
*Looking at you EU and your relentless drive towards censorship >.>
In the worst case, we will have to rebuild a feediverse in the darker corners of the net.
This looks silly from an outside perspective:
IIRC the special thing about student loans in the US is that you cannot default out of them. So even if I go through bankruptcy, I will still owe this specific debt.
The obvious fix would be to deny student loans this special treatment.
I could imagine that this would also have a positive effect on the cost of tuition in the US, as the collection of these stupidly high debts would be far from guaranteed.
edit: spelling
My first NAS was an old IBM X40 and two USB3-Disks.
those where the days :)
I started with Ubuntu a few years ago and have stuck with Debian-like distros ever since.
I currently use Pop!Os on notebooks and OMV on my NAS.
If I ever find the time, I plan to play around with something Arch based for my gaming PC when the time comes to switch from Windows.
This is the only way for me.
No Amazon or Google or Nvidia stuff. Just an old PC, a cheap wireless keyboard with a touchpad and you are good to go.
