  • We reached peak comedy in the 90’s

This proves that after months, perhaps even years of modern meme research, we’ve arrived at the same conclusion that mr bean arrived back in the nineties.

May this serve as a reminder, fellow citizens: mr bean under a beam is the ultimate joke. People in the nineties were far ahead of their times and predicted modern meme culture. In fact, I believe they discovered the fundamental natural laws of comedy. Who knows what other complex and arcane theories they have hidden in plain sight. For this banger of a meme to be nothing but the intro to mr bean means we have more years, perhaps decades of research to achieve a fraction of the raw comedical output of the 90’s

Need we worship and pray to these old gods, for their art that’s been lost to time to return to us, perhaps from the heavens, descending illuminated, through a thin ray of light, packaged for our modern taste in a metal container meant for legumes, handed to us mortals by a god that resembles us, wearing a suit, and a tie, holding a stuffed bear as to not cause fear, but hope and happiness in our hearts.

“Do not fear” may he say, not through words, but through an exaggerated facial expression resembling a wide-eyed smile.

    “Here’s your beans”

I’m well known for borking my arch installations, not long ago I was struggling with Grub because apparently I have terrible reading comprehension and kept creating a boot partition with boot flags (EFI) and then installing Grub for my BIOS system… Not that I didn’t know it was BIOS, I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to flag the partition as bootable.

My head still hurts from the constant bashing against the keyboard and the facepalm upon realizing my stupidity.

I still manually partition my system because I’m a control freak. Fortunately I haven’t had to look at partition tables for a long time now.

Archinstall rocks, though installing Arch manually at least once or twice first is an incredibly valuable educational experience. I wouldn’t have known what an fstab file was, and I realized just how important that was when I moved some data from a partition into another with dd. I manually reconfigured the fstab and the dopamine jolt I got from successfully doing that is unforgettable (of course, after 2 hours of scrambling on the internet because I borked something again)

  • Thanks!! I feel a bit more confident about this project now. To know that I’m on the right track is very validating to me. I will do my best to do my proper research and not go balls to the wall on this one.

I also really appreciate your advice on security, as I think this is the leg from which I limp the most. I’m still very new to all SSH and HTTPS things, so yeah…

I also didn’t quite understand your first point; what does openhab mean? And how is it possible that the people you mention aren’t getting hacked? Is it related to the second point about using ssh keys? I read in another comment that hackers could compromise my home network if I’m not careful enough, so I want to be extra cautious with that. (I hope I’m not lacking in common sense… perhaps it’s my reading comprehension that’s lacking… Yeah, that must be it!)

  • Thanks! I’ll look into this hello world example. And as for the electricity bill… I’m planning on having this website running locally for a short while, as this is mostly for learning purposes. Perhaps in the future I’ll try other hosting options, idk.

But for the time being, I like to think that I’ll be able to host whatever I want whenever I want you know? It’s kind of liberating.

  • Thanks! This actually helps me a lot, I’m lacking a bit of knowledge on ports and stuff, it sounds a bit daunting to have that many ports to choose from, but if you narrow it to that one port and another temporal one it gets easier haha, thank you, I never know which ports to use for stuff.

I’ve been reading some other comments and I think I’ve kind of figured out what to do, it’s just a matter of doing some more research, as you mentioned the how-to’s are easy to find online, but the bones of my plan are kind of there haha.
