  • I didn’t even take it as satire on that, I thought it was just a weeb version of plane waifus and while I don’t understand it I also am not threatened by accepting it may be a reality for some people. If someone wants to identify as an anthropomorphic attack helicopter because they want a helicopter waifu… I don’t understand but I don’t have to to chuckle a bit and move on with my life. I don’t know if that is a healthy view (mine) but it doesn’t make me think of them as less human anymore that someone who likes pineapple on pizza. Sorry for the ramble, let me know if I’m off or missing something.

  • Mine’s probably nostalgia tinged but here goes: FFVII, VIII, IX, and X I love the setting, I love the mechanic changes between the series from materia giving various boosts in 7 to the actual spell slots changing stats in 8 and the summons in 9, and blitzball in 10. The story for each was unique in their own world ending way and beautiful to run through. I replay them probably once every three-five years or so but they mark a high point for me. Adding to the list, Demon’s Souls. I never fully understood the storyline behind it but the sequencing of zones around the central hub and the combat are some of my favorite aspects. I need another play on that soon… It would probably be a little weeby of me to take some life lessons from them but they did help me to understand that hard decisions sometimes have to be made that include personal sacrifice and doing things that are unpleasant in order to move everyone forward and up.

  • “Lemmygrad doesn’t seem to be a very friendly instance unless you have those specific political loyalties, and it seems self-isolating as well to an extent, I just want to foster a culture of not letting anyone control what you see or what you can say, and also a culture of accountability and feedback. I just think thats what makes communities alive and good.”

So do that. Create your own instance. Here you’re just complaining that the people in this instance don’t have the same opinion towards fostering open lines with asshats.

  • I’m talking about the fediverse since tech has advanced quite a bit from when email was first starting up which has increased the capability of trolls to cause problems.

As for why you should help out, you’re the one demanding access to a community that has set rules and doesn’t have the tools to enforce it exactly the way you want so… Maybe step up and stop complaining so much? How is it such a crisis that a community closes it’s gates? It’s likely not permanent and can be reversed when said mod tools reach the usability needed.

  • In another example, cell phone companies allow users to keep their number and call anyone on any service.

However they also have laws to block people who use that accessibility to troll others (spam calls).

You’re expecting an open sourced, volunteer network to have the same controls as private companies with departments dedicated to keeping these issues in check. Your analogy does not work.

In your country example, each country has users verified (passports) and travel between two countries is not allowed without proof of their verified identity which comes with other controls for restricting individuals on a case by case basis as they break the laws of the country they immigrate to. Lemmy does not have those tools yet, so until they do the point is moot. How about you help create those tools since you view the current status as such a travesty?
