I’m interested in moving to DevOPS from it engineering/support roles but somehow I can’t seem to get anyone to take me seriously. How did you get into DevOPS?
I’m under 50 and I know Vi because it was always available on every Linux/BSD system i used from the day i discovered Linux up to now

um… what kind of person uses an acronym over and over through a long ass article without ever stating what the fuck that acronym stands for?
i like to douse myself in mud, then slowly creep up on it from behind, taking extra care not to break any twigs or ruffle any leaves, then I grab it and hold on for the ride of my life
less about programming, more about programmers: just because you can code an app doesn’t mean you know jack shit about anything else… politics included
so many software engineers think they’re the only one who understands the world and that they are the one to have the final say in any discussion
i think that stems from their outrageous overpayment
it’s their marketing brains… believing hype and parroting buzzwords are mental shortcuts to never having to think for yourself and they prefer it that way
Yeah I have a hard enough time remembering the default vim bindings, I can’t be assed to go around making my own up and trying to remember those too
i just apply through sites like LinkedIn, or by going directly to the careers page of whatever company I’m looking at… most of the time I’ll get a rejection or just not hear back, but applying to enough places eventually gets some bites… I’ll be starting a new job in a couple of weeks after having applied to a few places back in October and going through the interview process at a couple places since.

Open source was M$’ archenemy that they knew they couldn’t compete against. So they slithered in and co-opted it and everyone just ignores the perils and carries on.
