Not surprising. Israel had the tech to bug everyones phones.

The Israeli NSO group which is a day 1 hacks group developed the Pegasus spyware and found lots of creative ways to get it on peoples phones. They also sold it later on to just about anyone who was willing to pay.

  • After being a few months away from being married and seeing it all fall apart I’ve realized that I don’t ever want to be married.

Doesn’t mean I don’t want a long term relationship but I don’t want to tie the knot and tangle up my life like that ever again. If we had gotten married then divorced my ex would have ruined me. I was too soft at that time and I would have let her use me as a doormat on the way out. I know better now but I still don’t want to deal with those complications.

I’m sorry that happened to you but I appreciate you warning people of the dangers of being confrontational with these people.

It’s not worth it. You won’t change their mind, people nearby aren’t going to clap for you, you’re just unnecessarily putting yourself in harms way because many of these people are not kind, they will respond aggressively.

  • People really just weren’t ready for social media or having miniature computer-cameras at their disposal constantly.

If your child is having a meltdown of throwing a tantrum then you as a parent have a job to be doing. Put the phone back in your pocket or your purse and attend to your kid. Figure out what the problem is, do what you need to do to calm them down and consider that maybe if this is a frequent occurrence that perhaps you as a parent fucked up somewhere and you’re going to have to be responsible by working to correct whatever mistakes you made that brought this bad habit into existence.

  • I wouldn’t say it’s the platform’s fault or consider it misuse of those experiencing that.

We should be using online spaces and platforms to engage with one another. We could use these to reach out to each other across the world for a variety of positive purposes. It’s just unfortunate that most platforms are filled with hate and a lot of people out there would rather have negative experiences and some engagement, than no engagement at all.

Obviously that’s not exactly healthy but that’s how some people seem to be. I also question how healthy society would be if we all eventually ended up in the position of refusing online interaction for this reason.

  • Tbf it’s rare to see normal people posting on social media in 2024, at least everyone I see is fucked up in some way.

This might be a bold assumption on my part but I would say most normal people do not have the energy for the craziness that occurs on a lot of socials now.

You want to engage and be a part of the community but it’s just far too exhausting in many cases. Easier to just browse most of the time.

  • I stand by my opinion that learning systems training on copyrighted materials isn’t the problem, it’s companies super eager to replace human workers with automation (or replace skilled workers with cheaper, unskilled workers).

I mean it’s the heart of the issue.

OpenAI isn’t even the big issue regarding this. It’s other companies that are developing and training specialized LLMs on their own employees. These companies have the capital to take the loss on the project because in their eyes it’ll eventually turn into a gain as long as they get it right eventually.

GPT and OpenAI is just a minor distraction in regards to what is being cooked up behind the scenes, but I still wouldn’t give them a free pass for that either.

  • From the context it was obviously an offhanded joke,

Ah so that’s the thread in question. Was wondering what post it was and honestly, I suspected that one of being rage bait.

The original image seemed like it was missing context so I figured OP was gonna come swinging in later against any comments saying it was extreme with the additional context.

And yes, out of context I thought it was a bit extreme. I don’t necessarily agree with what the first person in the image said although that’s a complex topic that deserves a much lengthier discussion, but just randomly having someone tell them that they’re a creep who deserves to be tased is fairly extreme without any additional context. Keep in mind, I have no idea who the individual is or what they’ve done.

  • There are merits for it and against it. My biggest concerns would be privacy regarding data scrapers .

Regarding poor behavior, I really think that ultimately comes down to moderation on the platform. I’ve only had a few poor experiences but I am also someone who sometimes sees certain threads as dumpster fires and refrains from joining in or refrains from responding when I feel there isn’t any form of discussion or chatter to be had. I can understand that it likely happens more often than not but I also believe that moderation is the only reasonable way of curbing it. Moderation teams have to make it clear that the behavior is not welcome and that it will be dealt with.

  • The problem isn’t necessarily multiplayer games as much as many multiplayer games refuse to release with functions to help you group/party find and actually meet people in-game. They don’t have to because discord exists.

So you go to play a new game and turns out you’re just playing with the same people you always play games with because despite being multiplayer there’s no reason to interact with strangers in-game.

  • Sure, if they’re abandoned.

The issue is that we have so, so many stray cats. So, so many cats left in shelters. We do not need people to breed more cats just so people can have their very expensive and very specifically bred designer furbaby. We need people to take care of the ones that already exist and are already struggling.
