Just remember the c in disc is shaped like a magnet.
Just remember the c in disc is shaped like a magnet.
Sure mate.
You’re suggesting that showing videos in a town square is the same as posting in Twitter? They’re not the same, obviously.
It’s complex and I don’t have the answers. My comment is merely hilighting the conflict between these 2 ideals… governments shouldn’t whether or not specific content is ok, but companies shouldn’t provide content which is clearly unacceptable.
If xitter didn’t provide that content the government wouldn’t have to intervene.
If the government does intervene it reduces the barrier for them to intervene in future.
You’re conflating “disk” with “drive”.
An SSD is not a disk.
This is correct in most cases but I don’t think it’s the underlying principle.
This wiki talks about the etymology, with a lot of examples. Most conform to this rule, but there are exceptions in astrophysics like an accretion disk.
Even in info tech, “hard disk” doesn’t really conform to this rule. Like is a hard disk a square hard drive or is it the round thing inside? If it’s the square hard drive, that’s not thin enough to be a “disk”. I’d it’s the round thing inside that would be hard disc, but also creates problems for floppy disk because why refer to the housing in one instance but not another.
Sadly, I think the correct answer is that either refers to a thin flat thing, some spellings are preferred for some uses.
I’m quite conflicted about this.
I hate musk. Hate twitter. Hate that people were sharing videos of a terrorist attack.
That said, I suspect that this was something of a test case, with the regulator flexing their censorship muscle, and I’m glad it didn’t work out.
It’s also disappointing that her kids were doxxed, I don’t condone that at all… but “just doing my job” is not a reasonable defence when you have a shitty job strategising how to corrode privacy.
No, it’s more than that. Like PTSD or something.
Because I don’t think it’s a “fun game” for the cat.
I’ve seen some animals become obsessed with lights and reflections for life, after “playing” with the laser.
Yeah I don’t get it at all.
Like seriously “animal abuse”? Maybe it is, but I’d waaay rather be a cat on a vegan diet than say… a chicken that makes the eggs I like to eat, or the KFC I enjoy so much.
Guaranteed, plenty of cats eating a vegan diet are having their nutritional needs met more satisfactorily than plenty of cats that are fed other commercial cat foods, or strays, or cats in the wild.
It’s about as “abusive” as using a laser pointer to play with your cat. A behaviour I personally find repugnant, but one enjoyed by cat owners the world over.
You can call it cat abuse if you want, but honestly on the spectrum of things that are worth censoring this barely rates a mention.
Similar here. I’m an accountant by trade but tech is my strongest hobby.
Tomorrow: a new mothership!
I think this raises some good points.
I get that admins are doing their best, but what’s really needed is a policy guiding admin behaviour. Under what circumstances will admins intervene, and what decision process will they follow to determine what interventions they will implement.
Without that, I’m afraid updating the ToS to green light the behaviour of admins retrospectively is just going to cause more frustration and resentment for everyone.
It’s great that the admins are putting so much effort into getting this right.
Sadly, I don’t think this is the way. Adding this to the ToS means you admins will always be in the centre of every unwinnable situation that arises.
You need a committee to deal with these issues on a case by case basis. There are many advantages to this:
I don’t want to be critical of the ToS because someone has put a lot of thought into it, but the most charitable thing I can say is that its unlikely to serve its intended purpose.
… and yet here we are.
There there pet.
This thread. Apparently the dietary requirements of cats is a contentious topic.
edit: Sorry also this thread that I hadn’t seen before.
One, day… some adult is going to think “that fucking cunt ass bitch lied to me about the rice”.
I’m not disagreeing with you, but I think it’s a histamine response which is just directed at parasites in general.
One is online.
