Hey man, why so hostile? That “nobody likes you and you have no friends” thing isn’t even funny, it just makes you look like a dick

My rule would be the exact opposite, lol. It’s proven to be safer over and over. The main reason is because you have good vision of the road and traffic when you leave, as opposed to when you have to leave in reverse.
You meant to say ‘admin’
That’s exactly what I meant, thank you. It was an example, I don’t want to talk about covid specifically. I’m not referring to injecting bleach or that kind of nonsense, where the admins already should have enough tools to enforce. It’s just that this guiding principle in case of doubt makes it much too broad. It’s making a sweeping statement about all the gray area of any issue

This is a bit learning the wrong lesson from what happened, isn’t it? The problem is admin overreach. There was some disagreement on a sub, no big deal. I don’t even care what it’s about, I have no opinion on it. But now this admin comes in like Eric Cartman “Respect mah authoritah!”. What am I supposed to make of that? Nobody was advocating animal abuse. I worry about admins who can’t just let something go, who can’t handle disagreement, like a cop always looking to escalate.
So thanks for the rules clarification, I guess, but what about:
All in all, please don’t kill this instance by telling people what to think. There is healthy discussion and people don’t always have to agree. That doesn’t make me a ‘free speech absolutist’. I think removing moderator privileges was quite out of bounds. Again, nobody was advocating animal abuse at all.
Mods and admins are here to keep discussion healthy, not impose their views on everyone else, right? So don’t! And don’t cover for others who do!
Cory Doctorow calls this one “it’s ok because we do it with an app” and urges regulators to enforce the laws already on the books. It’s an absurd defense legally, but there’s no enforcement of antitrust or consumer law at all anymore
Never mind the “thanks I’m cured” vibes, but mild exercise does improve mental health a lot. Going outside for a stroll in nature is great. I know it’s still difficult when your brain just wants you to curl up into a ball all day, but the idea isn’t bad.
Never heard of that. In my country it’s normal not to finish your term in office, so once an election is called, they don’t want to plan them too far out. That takes care of it and you’re not too long in between governments
Wtf
We still make fun of conservatives, but it’s much less funny that they’re actually in power. Conservatives are living up to the satire.
It’s like the aliens in Galaxy Quest who think their Star Trek show is a documentary, only it’s conservatives watching The Colbert Report
Two reasons: It’s a spammy bot, and it has a right-wing bias
Thanks, I still hate it

This is why I teach my kids to lie they are grown ups on the internet. Fuck big tech deciding what is and isn’t appropriate for my kids, with no way to override it as a parent. Their legal department CYA policies interest do not align with my and my kids’ interest.
Moreover, they’re fighting the previous war. The real needs of me and my children to be safe online, aren’t about porn and swearing. It’s about death threats and doxxing, about scammers trying to get your passwords. Here’s the thing: That has NOTHING to do with being a minor. EVERYONE needs those protections. Big tech is intentionally focusing attention on children so they can keep getting away with spending zero dollars on stopping bad actors
I was around 7 and my much older brother convinced me to stay up until very late in the evening when the dirty softcore stuff was on tv. Must have been midnight or whatever. Finally it started… I don’t know what I expected but I was like “that’s it??!” It was so boring! Fell asleep a minute later.
